Apathy

At a Glance

Apathy is the most common behavior problem associated with dementia, and affects between 60 to 80 percent of people with these disease (such as Alzheimer's). Apathy is the lack or suppression of emotion, feeling, concern and motivation. This can be due to brain damage caused by Alzheimer's disease, and can be difficult to treat. Some medication has been seen to make some improvement.
