Depression

At a Glance

Depression can occur in Alzheimer's patients, due to frustration at memory loss, confusion or generally due to aging. Depression can be even more complicated in Alzheimer's patients, because the disease is a brain disorder. Depression is also a common side effect of medications that are frequently prescribed to the elderly. If you feel your loved one is showing signs of depression, talk to your doctor about what can be done to relieve the symptoms.
