Q: Is there a liquid form of Alzheimer's medication available for noncompliant patients?

My Mother has Alzheimers and my Dad and her Doctor have not told her and do not feel it would be a good idea. She refuses to take the medicine that the doctor has prescribed to treat her Alzheimers symptoms. My Dad is hoping there might be a liquid form of this medicine that he could slip into glass of milk at dinner. Is there a way to get an unco-operative person to take their medicine? HELP!

She could use the patch on her skin, e.g., exelon patch if she takes exelon. I don't know if there is liquid form for aricept or namenda and etc., maybe you can check the website or ask the doctor. But the patch is a common way for some Alzheimers people to take the AD medication. The other thing is, these pills are quite small - my father-in-law took them before, so I know that they are small. You can blend them into the food like yogurt or apple sauce so that she would not know it. Ground it up and put the powder in the food is another way to do it so she does not have to know.

Hope this helps,

Nina
