What Are Basic Tools for Alzheimer's Caregivers

I am collecting items that will keep my mother engaged, reduce her stress, and help her feel better about herself.

I have had good results with water colors, adult coloring books, music, and simple children's games like "Sorry".

I've also found a simplified recorder (www.kindreminder.com) that I use to leave a comforting, reassuring message for Mom.   She wears it as a pendant and plays the messages over and over again.  It might be something like "Hi, Mom.  Today is Tuesday, Mary is here with you, and I'll be back after lunch"  or something as simple as "I love you, Mom."

What tools have been useful for you?

You are doing all the right things. There are also some good items at www.alzstore.com. Also, www.memory-triggers.com you can find some interesting books that help conversation and reminiscing. I've seen them and they are very good.

Take care,

Carol
