Hi Jerry,

I've read where this drug can help lower the libido of men. I'm sure there are side effects, so your father will have to be watched carefully, but this sexual agression is something that is common with dementia, so scientists are looking for solutions.

Please let us know if this helps or if you see negative side effects (if they go ahead with the medication). Your input could help others with this common problem.

Take care,

Carol

My father has vascular/mixed dementia.  He was threatening to go to the neighbors to have sex with her (she is an elderly lady as well) and he knew she was alone.  He also came up to my mother in the middle of the night demanding sex (they are elderly and havent done that for years) Also, he came up to me (his daughter) and asked if we were having sex. We started him on 5 mg of provera and it took these strange and embarrassing behaviors away...

Thanks for letting us know, Gigi. Sexual aggression isn't unusual with dementia. It's good to be aware of some options.
