For the last couple of days my mother doesn't recognize me her daughter . I have had three treatments for a breast cancer tumor with good results everything is going well. Only my hair is gone for a time and so I think she is getting confused even more and will not let me help her she get angry and confused and doesn't like when I try to help her she gets angry and only lets other people help her. I would like some needed advice on this matter so I can continue to help her in all she needs. Thank you for all your support and please keep me in your prayers. Rose Mary

Hi Rose Mary,

I'm so glad your treatments went well. I think you are right in that your lack of hair is confusing your mother and she doesn't know what to think. People with Alzheimer's generally get so they don't recognize anyone, but she may be confused because she knows your voice but not your face and that frightens her.

Patience is best and you are so good with that. Please don't take this personally (I know that is hard). I hope, with time, your mother can let you help her.

Take care of yourself, too.

Carol

Rose Mary,

I think the alternative is to get a nice wig that looks like your old style. Your hair will grow back in 6 months. I had lost hair too due to chemo and it took a long time to grow back. I got a wig as I hate to use scarf. You can get a real hair wig which is more expensive, or you can get a regular wig in hair specialty shop or the wig shop. I think it is worthwhile if you just get a wig to make yourself look like before. I know it is still you, but your Mom is losing memory in terms of knowing her people.

My father-in-law is losing memory about my husband. At times he asks me if he is his son. It is not just you. Your Mom just happens to lose memory on people also at this moment. Somehow she will always depend on you, but I think she should be able to recognize your voice for sure. My FIL recognized the voice of his 2 sons although he really forgot about his elder son.

Anyway, get a wig and God bless!!

Take care,

Nina
