Mother confused
For the last couple of days my mother gets confused first in the morning she will let me dress her, but after that she will get angry and doesn't want me to help her I sit her in a small but easy to handle wheelchair and that makes it easier to move her around the house . I have to give her a pill in the morning and the only way that works in putting it in french toast with syrup and putting her pills on top mashed up. This seems to work in the morning , but my problem is also in the evening she won't take them from me. I think because of my chemo treatments and my loss of hair , she doesn't know who I am and will not take them . Please give me some needed advice on this matter. Thank You again for all your support. Rose Mary
Hi Rose Mary,
You are likely right that your loss of hair is confusing to you mom, but the fact that she is different in the morning than the evening may be that she is cranky because she is tired. I know how patient you are. You can only do your best. If moving her around helps, that's a great idea.
Take care of yourself, too.

It may not be you. It could be her own confusion no matter what. Don't blame yourself. If she is at the stage of not knowing familiar people, it is not because of what you do or look like. She just forgot people gradually. It may also be sundowning as she reacts badly at night. She may also want to sleep in the day and wake up at night as her time clock is also messed up by her confusion. Check with the nurse or doctor and see what they can do. Maybe some mild medications. You may also consider professional caregiver who can come to help her for a while.
Take care,
Nina
