You might want to start out by locating a homecare agency in your area. The assessment process begins when a nurse evaluates your mother-in-law to determine how many hours of care would be appropriate for her. Pending this assessment, it is possible that your mother-in-law would be eligible for homecare based on insurance criteria. In the event that her insurance does not provide authorization, you can still hire an aide privately to assist your mother-in-law during the night. You can also ask around your community to see if anyone has used an aide in the past that they can recommend, but keep in mind that they might not come from a certified agency and may not have the licensing or experience that most agencies require. You can visit www.eldercare.gov/Eldercare/Public/Search_Results.asp to find out information on your local Area Agency on Aging, who can provide you with a comprehensive listing of services your immediate area.
