I answered it for you, but I can't find the answer either, so let's give it another shot. There are many kinds of dementia. Alzheimer's is just one, and it gets the most publicity at this time, as it's currently the most common. Vascular dementia comes from mini-strokes or regular strokes or other vascular diseases. Generally, what affects the heart affects the brain.
There is Pick's disease. Then there is a type of dementia that can come with Parkinson's and about 20% of the people with Parkinson's develop Alzheimer's. There is also dementia related to alcohol and/or drug abuse.
There are many others, and sometimes doctors can't put their finger on one and it's then just termed "organic brain disease." Both of my parents, with very different problems, had that diagnosis. My dad's came from surgery gone wrong, and my mother's was the sort of slow decline in memory that they used to call senility. My mother-in-law was the same. None of them were diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
So, in essence, Alzheimer's is just one of many dementia, but it is a dementia.
