Q: Effect of Steriods

My mother retains Co2 and is now on a large doseage of steriods daily. Does anyone know how steriods can or does effect an alzheimer's patient?

Is she using an inhaler? The kind used for asthma (and sometimes other lung issues) is more localized and likely wouldn't affect her Alzheimer's. However, oral steriods, such as those used for rheumatoid arthritis, can cause mental issues and even hallucinations. I'd talk with the doctor and watch her carefully, if that is the case. Perhaps a smaller does could be used, or she could switch to an inhaler.
