Hi

Your father needs to see a doctor. There are many causes of disorientation so he requires an accurate diagnosis before any treatments, such as medication, is prescribed.

Best Wishes

Christine

As Christine said, seeing a doctor is the next step. There may be a medication that can help him. Or he could be taking a medication that is causing symptoms. There are so many things that can cause issues like this that he needs a good checkup.

If he checks out to have some dementia, they may try one of the medications to slow the decline. The drugs do help many people. Good luck. We'd love to hear back about how it all works out.

Hi, 1st Daughter,

I agree with both of the previous responses. I also wanted to throw one more thought out there - you may want to start thinking seriously about how you can limit or eventually stop your dad from driving (if you haven't already). Depending on how often he experiences disorientation or forgets how to get around, he may be posing a danger not only to himself but to others on the road as well as pedestrians and cyclists. I wrote a sharepost about this topic that might be helpful: http://www.healthcentral.com/alzheimers/c/42/59268/drivers-alzheimer

Take care and keep us posted!
