There are two types of telephone support services.  One type is referred to as a hotline where you can get information, referrals and support.  AFA has a toll-free hotline where you can contact licensed social workers for this type of information.  The other type of telephone support can be in the format of a group, an alternative format to typical face-to-face support meeting.  This alternative is helpful in order to involve individuals in a group who cannot leave home either because there is no supervision for their loved ones or because of their own physical disabilities.

Although not a support group, the Alzheimer's Foundation of America offers a national toll-free telephone support network every Thursday night, called “Care Connection.” By calling in to this free service, you can gain valuable education from experts on a vast array of topics, and connect with family caregivers from across the country. This Thursday, February 12, for example, the expert on Care Connection is Debbie Mandel speaking about “Long Distance Caregiving and Stress Management”.  AFA posts the Care Connection schedule on Health Central or, to find out how you can connect, call the AFA at 866-AFA-8484 or visit www.alzfdn.org.
