I'm so glad you like the Web site! We're proud of it and continue to try to make it even better. Each reader/writer, like you, just makes it better.

I know what you mean about wanting personal experiences as far as the drug goes. I have had conversations about some of them that I had experiences with. When it's you mom or dad or child or spouse, you want more than a medical one-size-fits-all response. I'm afraid I can't help you, in that way, for this drug, but perhaps other readers can.

Take care,

Carol

Yes, my husband has used Seroquel. He was extremely upset when he was no longer allowed to drive and while usually quite gentle, he became very angry and difficult to be with. Seroquel actually made him violent, so we stopped it, it also made him paranoid and I really have nothing good to say about this medicine.

I am sorry for you that your husband is up at night, I am lucky that mine sleeps like a baby. Ask your doctor about anxiety medication, like Klonopin, that might do the trick. I have met many people with Alzheimer's by now, having dealt with it for so many years and many seem to be very anxious. It must be terrible to not know what is going on in your mind and body.

Wishingyou peace and joy,

Clara

My mother was put on seroquel to try and stop her compulsion to pick at her face.  The side effects from the seroquel showed up soon after she started the treatment.  She was nauseous, shaking as if she had parkinsons and would lose her sense of balance.  She also slept all the time.  I'm presently trying to get her doctor to take her off this medication as it has done more harm than good (it hasn't stopped her from picking).  I really don't advise this drug.

My mother's doctor also put her on this drug to help with sleep.  She is often up at all hours of the night.  She also was aggressive on the drug, but we stuck with it when she continued to be awake at night.  I have noticed an increase in her anxiety during the day.  She has lost all interest in puzzles which used to be her favorite thing.  I can't help but wonder if it has to do with the Seroquel.  It is nice that she is sleeping thru night but I'm wondering if it is worth it.

My wife has Alzheimer. She was diagnosed in 2004. We started with the Aricept. Later Aricept and Namenda. Around two years ago, she started to feel very anxious and from a person that we could help , she became irritated and violent. I was recommended to try Alprazolam. It calmed her but made her babble the words to appoint that nobody could understand watch she was saying and she started to loose her equilibrium. Several times the Dr. Recommended the Seroquel, but I was concern of the multiple side effects and passed over the recommendations. Finally , I had to accept and try and everything started to improve. We were able to take the Alprazolam to aminimum of 25 mg at sleep time. Alprazolam is very addictive. She stated to take the Seroquel about two years ago. Now she is taken 200 mg a day , divided in 75 mg at wake up time, 50 mg around two o'clock and 75 mg at bed time. It has work miracles. She sleeps around twelve hours and behave acceptable during the day. Afternoon, pass four o'clock she stars to get impatiente. To get her to bed is difficult to say the least. But here it is why I made the decision in favor of the Seroquel. Alzheimer is deadly illness . Nobody comes out of it. Some deteriore more rapidly than others but towards the same end. Why not make their time more enjoyable and passable. If Seroquel can in some occasions kill. the Alzheimer in all the accessions do it. My target is to make her time left with us the most enjoyable and without pain and suffering to a degree. Pray with your love one. Pray a lot. If Seroquel helps a little , praying does wonders for both of you. My wife is a gorgeous blonde, to whom I have been married for 50 years. It is harder on me than on her. Good luck. Reply
