Q: I have been experiencing memory loss for over a year now. I really don't know what to do. It came suddenly and I lost almost everything that I knew.I find it difficult to study nowadays. I need help.

The condition came suddenly. At first I was a quick learner and got things on the spot, but now I find it difficult to even keep common definitions. Sometimes I even forget the name of some of my friends

Hi, Akotodompe,

I'd encourage you to visit with your doctor about what you're experiencing. Your memory loss could be caused by a variety of issues - medications, stress, aging, or a brain condition. Your doctor should be able to help you figure out what's going on.

Take care and keep us posted!

Hi,

Although you did not say how old you are, you should know that memory loss is common as people age. Forgetting where you placed your car keys, not remembering to buy milk from the grocery store and being unable to immediately recall the names of your friends are memory lapses individuals experience for a variety of reasons. Since you stated the memory loss you experienced was sudden and has been occurring for over a year, I highly recommend you consult with a physician. There are tests that can be conducted in order to rule out other medical conditions that could be causing the memory loss. Medical conditions like depression, a vitamin deficiency or thyroid problems are a few examples of such conditions and can effectively be treated.

Sorry that I did not mention my age, but I'm a few months less than twenty.

You are quite young. Either you have a lot of stress in school or at work, or you may have physical problem that causes memory loss.

Please check with a doctor to find out what is going on. if it is serious, you may have some medical problem.

Take care,

Nina

Hi Akotodompe,

Like I said below in the reply, you may have other medical problems that need attention. Do you do lots of sports? Sometimes if you play football or boxing, your head may get hit a lot and it causes some head injury unknowingly and thus you get dementia. Please check with a doctor about your health.

Take care,

Nina
