Hi, Ellen,

I asked this same question in relation to my mother several years ago after I had gotten laid off. My tax preparer said this wasn't an option as far as federal income tax deductions were concerned; instead, he said I really needed to consider my work as a "labor of love."

However, if I were in your shoes, I'd call your state's Council on Aging to see if there might be some sort of program available from your state that would provide financial assistance for you as a caregiver.

Take care and keep us posted!

Hi I am not a professionial but my husband is in home hospice. My granddaughter is a CNA they ask if she was interested in being paid to help. She said no. the answer to your question is it depends on the company and what you are doing to aide her.
