My mother is having continual headaches and tiredness.
My father is feeling dizzy and tired most of the time.
Could that be due to Aricept?

Hi Lana,
Yes, these are possible side effects. As with any medication, there are side effects a mile long. Not everyone has the same ones, and almost anything is possible. I'd check with their doctor and ask about dosage changes and work to see if there is a way to downplay the side effects and still get benefits. Some doctors use combinations of drugs. Only the doctor can really help with this.
Please let us know how it goes. It helps everyone,
Carol
Yes there are side effects. My father-in-law who is 88 took aricept in Nov. 2006 and Jan/Feb. in 2007, and he lost his appetite. So he cannot take aricept. You can make sure and see if your parents are eating ok. My FIL later took namenda and exelon because he cannot take aricept. It is obvious, after he took aricept, he stopped eating normally.
Also the AD drugs are very strong so namenda and exelon also made my FIL very confused in the morning in Sept, 2008. So the doctor stopped these drugs for him. Now he is taking 7 medications for his heart failure condition. These AD drugs may not work for everyone. At the beginning, it helped my FIL and he said his perception improved.
Take care,
Nina
