For individuals who fall into this category, it can be very difficult to manage finances and fill needed prescriptions simultaneously. Some individuals can qualify for the Aricept Patient Assistance Program, where medications are dispensed free of charge or at a reduced rate. To find out if your grandfather qualifies for this program, please contact 1-800-226-2072 or 1-866-776-3700 or visit www.needymeds.com/state_programs.taf. There also are other medication assistance programs that can help finance a variety of prescription medications. The Partnership for Prescription Assistance assists people across the nation in attaining prescription medication at low or no cost. You can contact them at 1-888-477-2669 or visit www.pparx.org/Intro.php. Also, if your grandfather was a veteran, he may be eligible for prescription coverage as well. To find out if these benefits apply to him, call 1-800-827-1000. If your grandfather takes a number of medications, you should carefully review them (preferably with his primary care physician) and research the available prescription drug plans (Medicare Part D) on the market. Many plans will cover these medications so it is important to choose the plan that is most compatible with his drug regimen.
