My Mother is extremely anxious
My Mother is extremely anxious. We only realized that she has Alzeimers about 14 months ago. She was put on Zyprexa for her extreme anxiety. And then about five months later on Remeron for depression. She started having sort of fainting spells about four months ago. The Doctors, just recently started on Phenobarbital for sezisures. Since this new medication. She is even more ansious, and sleeps all day and night. She seems to be much much worse. She can't eat y herself or even use the bathroom anymore. She was almost given Valproic Acid and Talofen. I feel she is getting to much medicine. I hope, all these medicines are making her worst. She sleeps all day and when she's not she is very restless and tries to get out of her bed and once she leavea her room. She runs back to her bed and says she wants to go to sleep. She, also calls out for her deceased parents. I heard that zyprexa can cause sezisures in the elderly and Alzehimer patients. Can you make any suggestions?
Thank you
Rose
Hi, Rose,
I'm not a medical doctor, so I'm not qualified to comment on the various medications. What I did note in your question is that it seems like your mother is seeing several doctors. Is your mom seeing a hodgepodge of doctors for various ailments or do you have one primary care physician that you are using, and then supplementing with other doctors recommended by the primary care physician based on your mother's other health issues? What I found in my mothers situation was that she went to several doctors who kept adding lots of medications without talking to each other. We finally got this issue solved when we had a single primary care doctor who we worked with and went to concerning all medications prescribed by Mom's various doctors. So if I was in your shoes, I'd go back to whomever you consider your mother's primary physician and talk about the medications that have been prescribed and the issues she's experiencing.
Good luck!
Dorian

Hi Rose - Thanks for your post and so sorry for your worries. This situation can be really frustrating and somewhat difficult to decipher.
The first thing you may want to do is check with the pharmacist to make sure there aren't any drug interactions happening that could be causing these anxious episodes.
You may also want to read about the different medications she is taking.
Finally, you will need support of your own. Our caregiver center can helps those tkaing care of a loved one with alzheimer's disease or dementia.
All the best, sue
