Most companies have pre-existing condition currently. If one has cancer, it is not covered but Blue cross says if one has no cancer in 10 years, then they would cover it. Maybe you can find some companies that allow some conditional situation, say stable bipolar. This is indeed a problem. Some serious illness insurance policy may cover other diseases but not your bipolar depression. If you are poor, you may consider applying for medicaid to get insurance but most people are not that poor! The coming health insurance reform could change for better or worse. If Obama will cover everyone, something has to be paid for. Repubilcans are worried about bad changes. I think the least thing they can do is to take off this pre-existing condition. You could also try some program like major risk in Calif. that covers only $75,000 a year but it allows you to get something without pre-existing condition. In fact, the insurance co. situation for now is so bad that one just needs to keep it in the very beginning until the end. One can never drop it in case the sickness comes up.   Regards,Nina
