Good morning, My grandmother has Alzheimer's disease. My family is planning to buy a Locator to have her controlled all day. We are looking for information about locators, and the most famous and the best is the Keruve Locator (www.keruve.com). The company sells is from Spain and in the chat rooms, blogs, etc. there are many good opinions about it. Has anyone heard about the Locator Keruve? Someone is using it? Thank you very much,
The main point to check with these locators is do they cover your area? Not all cover everywhere. They are getting better and it sounds like you've done your homework. I'd also love to hear if anyone on this site has had experience with this company.
Hello Carol,My name is Robert Dyson and I am the Product Manager for Keruve in the USA. Since we are avid reseachers in the Alzheimer´s sector, I came across your post and wanted to answer some of your questions. Keruve is a pay-per-use device. There are no contracts or monthly fees, it´s available worldwide through e-commerce, and can be adapted to every country. In other words, the Keruve can cover any area with the appropriate communication since it is configured with 4 different positioning systems, including GPS and GSM (what cell phones use). The Keruve is a direct locater, meaning it doesn´t use any intermediaries, giving you direct control and the ability to be mobile since it uses a portable receiver. All of these features create a solid functionality giving peace of mind to the caretaker because essentially all it takes is a push of a button and you know exactly where that person is and how to get to them. Another feature is the security area. If you want to be notified when your loved one leaves a pre-determined area, you can enable the Security Area feature and the Keruve will instantly notify when they leave their usual area. If you have any other questions please visit our website and we´ll be glad to provide you with more information. Our US number is 917.310.0973 if you wish to speak directly. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the information. We appreciate it!
Do you have any feedback on the Keruve? I have yet to find one review on this product. Thank you for any help.
You'll want to be sure the locator is supported in the area where you live. A "famous" one isn't going to help you if it doesn't work within your region. It wouldn't hurt to call your local police department (non-emergency line) and ask if they have recommendations for systems that work well in your area.
I have not used a GPS system, so I, too, will be interested in comments from others.
When I purchased ours there was a choice between TMobile and AT&T. Both work fine in the area. TMobile charges a whole lot less for the monitoring charges so we went with it. The tracking system definitely worked. The major problem with Keruve, in my experience, is that it just takes a long time for the alert to activate. If your family member can travel 1/8 mile without concern it works. Otherwise, it may not be right for you.
Their refund system is horrible. Still waiting after almost a month and very frustrated.
Thanks, Retired, for your input. Hearing from people like you is invaluable.
I don't know anything first hand about this locator. It may be fine. But I'd contact your local Alzheimer's organzation for advice.
I'm not sure I'd to to a device monitored in Spain when there are many that are closer to home (if you live in the US). The main thing is you don't want to sign a long term contract, when you never know how long you'll need the device. Check with several companies and read the contracts carefully before you sign.
Just for your information: Keruve does not requiere to sign a contract and the monitoring is made directly by the caregiver with the keruve receiver.
My father has alzheimer and we bought a Keruve locator about 7 months ago, we live in Valencia, Spain. We are very satisfied with the product and the kind customer service. As I know, they sell worldwide. In Spain they offer a trial period of 15 days (with no cost, neither shipping cost). I think you should send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will inform you and reply all your questions.
Hi everyone. I've been looking for information about the Locator Keruve and I send a e-mail to receive information and from Keruve says:
"Keruve direct locator consists of a GPS watch and a portable receiver that communicate directly. By just pressing the locate button, you can always know where he is. If you need to set out and look for him, take the receiver with you and you will receive its actual position and find him quickly. Keruve´s GPS watch has a safety lock that can only be open with a special tool by a member of the family. It has several positioning systems (GPS and T-OD-GSM. If one of them fails, automatically switches to the other, so it will never be inoperative. It is also water resistant(no buttons and is fully sealed). The portable receiver communicates with the GPS watch unlimited distance. This is possible because they communicate directly through the mobile network. The Keruve direct locator will be sent to you with both GSM prepaid sim cards installed and preconfigured from us. You have to insert credit as you do with your mobile. In this case, you have to insert credit on two simcards (the watch and the locator). If you send us prepaid sim cards, the only cost you will have is for each location done (comunication between watch and receiver) and for downloading maps from the city or country. Downloading is automatic, the receiver is configured to connect with our net server. The only cost it will have is for each location done (communication between watch and receiver) or by downloading maps. If you send us prepaid sim cards, the only spend you will have is for each location done or when downloading maps. You will only need to download maps once, they are automatically store for future use. The receiver is configured to connect with our net server and downloading is automatic from the country or city where is located. It will show the location of the person carrying the watch and it also gives the exact coordinates of the location you want to check it on google maps. As you make locations, the charges are deducted from the credit available based on the per-minute rates from each simcards. Rates will vary depending on your local carrier's policies."
I hope this information will serve us everybody.
Did you ever buy a Keruve GPS watch and receiver? If so what did you think of it? Thank you for any help.
We purchased one for my brother who was crossing a busy street. The street was only about 60 yards away. The smallest perimeter you can set is 200 yards and there is a 2-3 minute lag time before the alert goes off. So it all depends on how far the person wearing it can go before you need to hear the alert.
Getting a refund has been tedious. It took them over a week to send a UPS label. Keruve has had it for 3 weeks and still nothing. They say it will be this week but won't believe it until I see it.
Can this be purchased in the USA? And what is the cost? This seems like a product that would be wonderful for our family.
When going to their site, it appears that you have to purchase it via online in Spain. The price is given in euros. What I figured, if I'm right, is around $1600 for the whole thing. My husband does not have alzheimers, but a very rare mental illness referred to as dissociative fugue. This has been going on for many years, and a device like this would be a HUGE blessing to our family. For years, I have continued to look for companies that would produce a lockable, water-proof GPS unit that he could wear so that I could find him if he began to wander away. I was told that this would never happen in the US because it would violate a persons right to freedom. Well, I think they would think a little differently if they lived with the fear and heart-ache of having someone you love very much suddenly wander off and possibly hurt themselves. The issue for our family is the financial cost . . . family & friends are thinking of doing a fundraiser to pay for this. Unfortunately, if purchasing it in Spain is the best we can do, it's worth it. Too bad the US can't step up and allow something similar. The technology is here, but not the moral compass to help those who really need it!
I agree Jamie.
The Keruve prides itself in its ability to maintain a discreet and elegant appearance. In many occasions the person with Alzheimer´s will get frightened and try to take off any strange objects they are wearing. The Keruve comes in different models for me and women and is no different than wearing an elegant watch.
I invite you to read this article. It´s so sad to hear about tragic cases like these. That is why it is so important to take the necessary steps to prepare for the unknown.
If you need any more information on Keruve please feel free to e-mail me at Robert.Dyson@visionlocalization.com. I´ll be glad to help you with any questions or concerns.
Did you ever buy one Lori and what did you think of it? Thanks.
