I am so sorry that you had strokes. Maybe it could be Vascular Dementia. The best thing is to check with your doctor and tell him/her about your problem. If you get lost on the road, that is quite serious and should be concerned about your memory. However, you need to find out what kind of dementia so you can get treatment accordingly. It may not be Alzheimer's. Not that you have dementia for sure. It could be temporary dementia if it is from small vessel stroke. My mother recently had minor stroke in the age of 83, so maybe you should look into it. It may not be permanent at this time.

Good luck!

Nina

Hi, Velvet,

You are doing exactly the right thing - seeing your doctor. That should be your first step in determining what (if anything) is causing your memory loss.

Until you hear the diagnosis, please relax and breathe (because stress is harmful not only to your cardiovascular system, but also to your brain). I know that forgetting people and directions can be scary, especially when you are witnessing your grandmother's fight with Alzheimer's. It's easy to think that you have the disease too, but there may be other reasons. For instance, I'm guessing  that since you are 47, you also are experiencing hormone changes due to menopause, so that also may be a factor. You also may be multi-tasking, which doesn't allow your brain to focus on what you are doing at the moment.

Stay strong, take care of yourself, and keep us posted!

Dorian
