Q: Atrial Flutter with Alzheimers

My Mother was hosipalize with pneumonia last week while in the hospital she wore a heart monitor, we found out that she has atrial flutter. If I am saying this right. The doctor explain it to where her heart beats 80 beats per min then 300 beat s per minute. No pace maker can be done due to her declining health. We have put her with hospice. We are very confused on how long Mother has left with us. She is also in the last stages of alzheimers. She is resting comfortly at this time.

Hi, Donna,

I'm so sorry about your mom's situation and know how hard it is for you. Other physical ailments besides Alzheimer's can result in a loved one's physical decline. In my mom's case, it was Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (caused from smoking way too many years).

I'm glad you have the support of Hospice. Besides being with your mom, I'd also encourage you to take some time for yourself since I know how stressful this period f caregiving will be for you.

Take care and let us know if we can help!

Dorian
