I am not a doctor. But I can tell you what I found in the internet. In 2002, aricept was considered effective for Vascular dementia which is due to mini stroke. But in 2006, aricept caused some deaths in a trial for vascular dementia. In 2008, some researchers found that aricept does not seem to help when it comes to a specific form of vascular dementia. You can just google search vascular dementia and aricept.

The other good news is the drug statin which lowers choloesterol seems to help preventing or slow down vascular dementia. But these are all preliminary studies.

So if I were you, I would not use aricept for vascular dementia.

Regards,

Nina

I know a woman whose father was mistakenly diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It sounded like vascular dementia to me, and it turned out it was. She said they kept him on Aricept, however, because it helped blood flow. It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask the physician (or two) if they think it would help.

Carol is right, You should ask the doctors for opinions. Aricept is very good for Alzheimer's otherwise.
