Q: DRUGS TO CALM AGITIATION IN ALZHEIMERS PATIENTS

My sister is in a nursing home.  They seem to be drugging her up on 3 different physchotic drugs.  All they do is knock her out.  Yes she gets agitated when the staff wants to do something to her like bathing, changing her under garments.  But other times she is calm.  I do not believe they need these strong drugs to assist in this

I think you may be on to something. Three psychoactive drugs seems a lot. Her underlying illness, of course, is important in this consideration, but I would seek a second opinion from a doctor and also ask a pharmacist to run the drug combination thorough the computer to see what they think. There may be a better way to handle this, or even a better facility for her.

Thanks for being so caring,

Carol

I heard that sometimes the doctors do anything without consulting the family in the nursing home. You may need to talk to the physician directly and discuss with them about what they did and why they give her these drugs.

Take care,

Nina
