Travel to Disney w/ Stage 4 Alz patient? My elderly father gets confused when not at home, has little stamina, and noise and crowds are bothersome. He gets lost going to restroom or anywhere separated by family, and has anxiety.  I think it's a bad idea, but he thinks it sounds fun, and my Mom can't fathom making alternative arrangements for him while we go. Also travelling w/ a 4 year old special needs child.  I'm afraid this will be very stressful for all involved.  FL heat may also be problematic; he doesn't think he needs to drink water. Any advice?

My husband and I are taking care of my father-in-law who has...

I am not a nurse so I cannot say for sure.

It depends. If he likes Disney world and you guys can cope with him by being with him 24 hours, then it may work out. If he trusts only your Mom, then she will need to comfort and coach him on the road.

The other alternative is to get a respite service - a temporary stay in a nursing home or assisted live-in. It costs but it may be safer and you can check out the service also.

My father-in-law has stage 6 Alzheimer's so I kind of know what you mean.

Just my 2 cents.
