I am wondering if being a guardian to an Alzheimer's patient the only way?
I was told that being a guardian can help solve the problem for the invalid Alzheimer's parent. but we are not in the same country and no one else can be guardian except friends. Naturally my husband is the "natural" guardians for my FIL. He is the trustee too. Is there any other way to act like a guardian? e.g., for tax returns, it still needs POA and it lasts only 3 years. I worry when my FIL cannot sign anything, the tax returns stuff would be in some trouble. Basically most stuff is ok with my hubby's name in the accounts and etc. The court requires that one has to live in USA but we are not in USA at this moment and his Dad lives in IL. It is so difficult because families who are in other countries does not seem to matter here. Not all people have large families.
At this point all his relatives are not in USA.

I think we will talk to an attorney in this case.

I suggest that you look at the National Guardianship Association's website at www.guardianship.org. There are professional guardians and fiduciaries around the country who are listed in the "Find a Guardian" section who can assist in such a situation.
