Q: Effective male undergarment for bladder and bowel incontinence that won't leak?

Friend's husband is in middle stage of Alzheimer's. He is bowel and bladder incontinent. Have been using Depends pull ups, but they are leaking and it is embarrassing for him. Any suggestions for an effective alternative? Don't think he could handle the diaper style.

Hi Mary Pat,

People nearly all hate the "diaper" idea. It's so hard, because they can still understand the "stima" of a diaper. However, with bowel problems, I'm not sure there is an option. There are male versions of urine protection products available, but for bowels, more coverage is needed.

I hope someone has a better answer for you, as I'd like to hear if there is an alternative myself, but at this time I know of no option but full-on protection (of course not to be called a diaper whether the affected person calls it that or not). Much assurance that this happens to many people can help some, but it's difficult no matter what. We can all learn from each other. Any ideas out there?

HI

Here are a couple of links to the incontinence site here at Health Central.

The first link gives you information about male incontinence products for urinary incontinence

http://www.healthcentral.com/incontinence/c/45/52861/incontinence-men

The second is a link to products for male fecal incontinence

 http://www.healthcentral.com/incontinence/treatment-devices-8821-108.html

Hope this helps
