Dorian Martin, a doctoral student at Texas A&M University, currently serves as the primary caretaker for her mother, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in September 2005. Dorian’s maternal grandmother also suffered from undiagnosed dementia before her death in the 1980s.
Starting her professional career as a newspaper journalist, Dorian became a nationally recognized communications director during her tenure at two Texas school districts and a state education association. Dorian then joined The Texas A&M University System, where she coordinated professional development, communications, and evaluation for a nationally recognized effort to increase the quantity and quality of teachers produced by the nine A&M System institutions.
Since Spring 2005, Dorian has focused on being a full-time doctoral student in educational human resource development. She hopes to begin her dissertation in Fall 2006.
Dorian’s father currently lives in West Texas where he is finalizing estate issues before moving closer to Dorian and her mother. Dorian’s brother lives in Colorado. Fortunately, Dorian is surrounded by a wealth of friends in the area who willingly provide a listening ear, advice, and support whenever she needs help.
