Causes For Dementia

One third of dementia cases linked to diabetes, blood pressure

Damage to small blood vessels from high blood pressure and diabetes may be a leading cause of dementia, a new study suggests. Researchers from The University of Washington studied 3,400 participants and found that brain scans revealed that one third of the patients who had dementia also suffered from small blood vessel damage. The damage was caused by several small--essentially unnoticeable--strokes that were triggered by hypertension and diabetes. Read more »
