Reports of memory loss from people taking the cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor have jumped in Australia, with 32 of the 52 total reported cases in that country filed in the last 18 months. Though amnesia is listed as a rare side effect of the medicine, health officials in Australia believe the spike in reports may be more about publicity surrounding a recent book about Lipitor than any increased risk of memory loss from taking the drug.
