Scientists at University of California, San Francisco have found that doing too much exercise once a person enters middle age may increase his or her risk of developing osteoarthritis (OA). For the study, investigators looked at 136 healthy women and 100 healthy men over age 50. The researchers found that those who reported exercising on a regular basis were also more likely to report symptoms of OA.
