The AFA Listens to Caregivers

In an extensive effort to understand the challenges faced by Alzheimer’s patients and the individuals who care for them, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America conducted a survey of 539 caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer’s Disease to examine the perceptions and experience of caregivers. The Investigating Caregivers’ Attitudes and Needs survey identified significant links between the fear of stigma and delay of diagnosis, the toll caring for a loved on takes on the caregiver (including deterioration of familial relationships), the need for additional education and support for caregivers, and the rewards of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s.
