New drug may reverse Alzheimer's decline

British scientists have developed a new drug that may help stop the process of mental decline in dementia patients. In a small, three-month study, researchers found that the drug--called CPHPC--removed serum amyloid P component (SAP) protein from the brains of five Alzheimer's patients. SAP is thought to damage healthy brain cells by helping to form the clumps and brain tangles in the brain that lead to memory loss and other symptoms. The study's authors also found that the medication had no apparent side-effects.   Read full story >
