Depression may hasten Alzheimer's

Seniors who have mild cognitive impairment (MCI) as well as depression may be more likely to develop Alzheimer's, a study has found. But researchers say taking the drug Aricept may help delay the disease. In a study of 756 patients with MCI and depression, researchers found that Aricept halved the number of patients who developed Alzheimer's when compared to patients who took a placebo. But researchers say the drug did not delay Alzheimer's for those who did not suffer from depression.
