FDA: Personal emergency response button poses choking hazard

Officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued a warning that a type of personal emergency response button worn around the neck poses a choking hazard. The FDA officials say that there were six reports of serious injuries and four deaths after the cord of the Philips Lifeline Personal Help Button became entangled on objects such as wheelchairs, walkers, and beds with guard rails. The experts urge both caregivers and users to consult with their doctors to decide which personal emergency device is safest for their particular medical condition.  Read full story >
