Senate Finance Committee rejects public healthcare option

(Reuters) UPDATED 2009-09-29

The U.S. Senate Finance Committee has rejected a government-run public insurance option in its healthcare reform bill. Five Democrats voted with all of the panel's Republicans in opposing the inclusion of the government-run option in the bill in what is expected to be the first of several battles in Congress over the public option.
