Healthcare system wastes as much as $800 billion each year: report

A new report from Thomson Reuters has found that the U.S. healthcare system wastes up to $800 billion every year, and that proposed healthcare reform measures could be paid for by eliminating these wasteful practices. Researchers found that redundant medical procedures caused by paper records, fraudulent practices such as kickbacks and Medicare scams, and testing done to protect against malpractice claims are contributing to the annual loss within the healthcare system. But they also say the good news is that remedying these problems will not affect patients' quality of care.
