Patients want doctors to discuss costs

Experts say that patients have started expecting their doctors to help them make decisions about their care based on the cost of treatment. This result of consumer-driven healthcare may put doctors in a difficult position between what they believe is best for the patient and what the patient can afford. But researchers say that it's important for doctors to understand that the practical aspect of cost is a relevant factor for almost all patients.
