One in Three Americans Serve as Caregiver

One third of American adults serve as a caregiver for an elderly or disabled relative, a new study has found. On average, those caregivers spend 19 hours per week tending to the needs of their relative--an amount of time equal to that of an unpaid part-time job. Most caregivers are women, though the number of men caring for relatives appears to be increasing. Most study participants said that caregiving was not a hardship, but they did report that they often felt isolated. Researchers also found that those who had been caregiving the longest were more likely to report being in poor health.  Read full story >
