Elderly Women Get Unneeded Mammograms: Study

Many elderly women with cognitive impairment are being given mammograms unnecessarily, a new study has found--particularly if they are married and have a net worth of more than $100,000. In fact, researchers in San Francisco found that these women had the same percentage of mammograms as elderly women who were not cognitively impaired. Experts say this rate is too high because routine screening often finds growths that are not dangerous, which can mean women are being treated for no reason.  Read full story >
