Treating Common Heart Problem May Prevent Alzheimer's

Treating atrial fibrillation--a common type of irregular heartbeat--doctors may be able to prevent some cases of Alzheimer's disease. Recent studies suggest that atrial fibrillation may double the risk of dementia, particularly in younger people. Researchers say that study participants who underwent a minor surgical procedure were less likely to go on to develop Alzheimer's disease than participants whose atrial fibrillation was treated with medications.
