Depression May Boost Risk of Dementia, Alzheimer's

Researchers have found that people who are depressed may have a greater chance of developing dementia and Alzheimer's disease. In the study, scientists followed the progress of almost 1,000 people over the course of 17 years. They found that people who were depressed at the beginning of the study had almost twice the risk of dementia than the general population. The depressed patients also had an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease compared to people who were not depressed.
