Hi Eileen

 

I am glad you wrote this article.  It reminds me of when I had to give a public presentation at a conference.  I was absolutely terrified!  But Health Central had sent a couple of very special people to assist and...one wonderful piece of advice was that I channel my nervous energy into passion for what I was speaking about.  This advice really did help in allowing me to accept my nerves but...also what to do with all that energy. 

 

So yes...I do believe there can be positive benefits to some stress.  But when stress is extreme...I believe the best thing to do is to get some help and treatment.

On Thursdays, I meet with a friend to paint (I have a degree in art but haven't painted much in the last 20 yrs).  She has bipolar disorder and is scatterbrained sometimes or too ill (depressed) to meet with me.  I was so disappointed today when I showed up at her condo and she wasn't there.  I waited but she never came.  I had tried to call her earlier in the day to remind her of our date, but she didn't answer.  Her mother is sick, though, like mine, and she spends a lot of time over there.  Your article mentions hobbies as a way of relieving stress, and I must say that painting does it for me.  Plus having a creative outlet is important and makes me feel good about myself.

Dear all,

 

I think you might be confusing 2 different emotional states due to the "energy" level that is felt. An emotion is a level of energy or movement experienced by the body/brain. A feeling is (if you like) a perceived meaning to the energy that is experienced. Together we try to name the emotions we are experiencing....and most beneficially this means we can change our emotional responses by changing our thought processes.

 

So...change anxiety to eager anticipation....of an event...go on...I dare you to do so...

 

See what I mean?!!??
