Hi Eileen

This is certainly a good topic for the anxiety site as many of our members ask about this class of medication.  I have personal experience taking Xanax for my phobia of plane travel.  The thing I always have to remember is that although it is relatively fast acting...it is good if I take it before the plane ride and not when I am actually in the air.  I always wait until the last minute until I can't take my fright anymore but by the time I take it...and it kicks in...the plane is landing usually.

I can see where some people may become dependend upon xanax so you do have to be careful.  My doctor only prescribes 20 pills at a time for me and this lasts me...4-6 months.  It truly is helpful if you need it.

It was interesting for my son who has autism...we tried Xanax for him for anxiety and it had a "paradoxical effect" where it seemed to make him more anxious.  It goes to show you that everyone will react diffferently to the various medications.

Great post...I will surely be referring our members to it in the future.

Thanks Merely Me. We do get a lot of questions about this class of medication and hopefully the information will help our readers.
