I have reviewed acupuncture-related studies for two decades.

 

Never seen one eliminate the placebo effect as the primary agent in symptom relief. With few exceptions, one can insert the needle in pretty much any nerve/muscle group and obtain the same degree of symptom relief across a range of similar maladies.

 

Unless someone can prove otherwise, symptom relief is primarily about the client's belief in acupuncture. Once client belief is established, needle insertion triggers a cascade of activity in support of the client's desire to feel well.
