Merely Me, I could so totally identify with the scenario of choosing a card! I've sometimes left a store without one because the only ones there were just too sappy and had very little truth in them. My mother doesn't even like humorous cards because she has no sense of humor. Well, this year she got a humorous one. It wasn't totally impersonal or anything, but I don't feel too bad about it because she barely reads them, anyway, and when she opens her presents, she gives this aura of disappointment, looks at it and says "That's nice" and then promptly puts it back in the box. Getting a warm reaction from her is like trying to get blood from a stone.
It's not that I don't appreciate everything she did because I know motherhood is no piece of cake, but when she makes you feel like nothing you do is ever good enough, it's hard to conjure up much warmth myself.
Your mother probably enjoyed Max's drawings, so having him chew up the pink envelope was probably meant to be!
Hey Judy
I feel for you...it must be so hard. But hey...you sent the card...she knows she was thought of...sometimes I think it is all about doing the right thing for us not even particularly for the other person.
Thanks so much for stopping by to comment! I really do appreciate it.
