Ending the xanax

By dewalt.17 Friday, June 25, 2010

I have been on and off xanax for a long time and have found that I run out before the next script can be written, I have discovered that it is to easy for me to reach for and when it's gone I have a tough time.  With all that has happened recently I have found that as long as I maintain a calm within myself it makes the anxiety tolerable for the mot part.

I really don't want to need them to get through the day, sleeping is my biggest problem as I awake in the early morning hours.  My moods are still all over the place but I am finding that my defensive behavior and hostility are a learned behavior as well as isolating my self from others.

Hello Dewalt

I know that some of the anti-anxiety drugs can be particularly difficult to stop taking and xanax is known to create some dependence for some people.  I have a prescription myself for it...for dealing with anxiety related phobias. It is hard to know when you absolutely do need it and other times when...you just want it.

So I do applaud your efforts and I hope you let us know how we can emotionally support you through this time.

Sleep is essential so...perhaps tackling that as a separate issue will help.  Right now I take melatonin to get to sleep...and sometimes Benadryl to keep me asleep.  But always check with your doctor to see what can work best for you.  Everyone is different.

Anxiety is really hard to deal with...I know.  I always think...if only I weren't so darn anxious...I could enjoy life more.  It is an on-going battle for sure.

Thanks for sharing here and also for joining the depression site.  Good to see you getting support and sharing in both places.

It sounds like you are making progress, even if you are having a hard time when you run out of the Xanax, you are learning to cope with the symptoms and learning how to manage and change your thoughts. This is good. I think you have come a long way in the time we have been communicating with one another. I am so glad for you and hope you continue to make progress.
