There was recently a question on the Q & A section of the site about starting a support group. This made me start wondering how many people belong to a support group.   Do you? How do you feel it helps you? If you were starting your own support group, what types of things would you include...

I attend AA meetings, somedays if i speak i hear what i need to, other days i dont the association is good you do meet helpful people who come up to you after the meeting and give me their suggestions alot more than drinking is discussed it helps in many problems,  you could'nt get as intense as a anxiety meeting just thought i'd throw my view in, i have anxiety problems too, Thank you, Craig

I am interested in starting a group for those interested in learning about Generalized Anxiety Disorder; a local support group with an education component, however are there resources out there who can link me up with people who are interested in this sort of thing in the area we live?

How do I start?? It seems to me the mental health support in this area lack knowledge about this particular disorder and would also benefit from such a group.

The Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) website has information about generalized anxiety disorder, or GAD: www.adaa.org.

See this page for information about support groups: http://www.adaa.org/GettingHelp/SupportGroups.asp

    Hello Eileen

As you know I'm a alcoolic in remission altough I dont attend AA meetings anymore I must say that in the begining they were most helpfull to me even if I dindt agree with some of the twelve steps.

Stopping drinking is one thing but to stay sober is a different matter I first stop back in 1997 when I got in therapie and had a relapse in dec 1999 got back on the wagon in january 2000 so unlike The AA who would say that I have almost ten years of sobriety I like to think that from sept 1997 till dec 1999 counts.

Never tought I could make it without alcool or drugs in my life but here I am clean and sober after ''12 years''.

So to anyone who are in the grips of addiction and think that its not possible to get out put out your hand and reach out you will find that even if you dont believe some of us will for you.
