Intolerance to medicine?

Hi everyone!

Has anyone ever seen or experienced this?: My boyfriend was once able to take 80 mg of Paxil for OCD and was doing really well on it, but then after about 6 months, his body started to reject the medication and he had to start lowering the dosage to the point where he was no longer taking it. Once he completely stopped taking Paxil, he was deeply depressed and had severe OCD and anxiety. The doctors tried prescribing all different medications - Zoloft, Celexa, Prozac, Lexapro, and a few others that I can't remember - but his body was not able to tolerate any of these. He would only feel "relief" for the first 2 weeks or so but then he would start to feel really sick ...

Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks so much for your post. Now I don't feel so crazy. I can defitely empathise. I have ADD and depression/anxiety. I have been on a so many meds and eventually after increasing doses even my body rejects them or they don't work the same anymore or I get worse than before the medicine. Is there really any help out there?

Hi there...

He and I aren't together anymore because he has a commitment problem?!?! Or whatever, I can't totally understand it and the breakup has been really hard on me, but there is help out there. His doctor put him on Depakote because the doctor suspects that Frank (which was my boyfriend) is bipolar. People who are bipolar doesn't tolerate SSRIs and unfortunately won't know that until YEARS later, when the body finally has enough built up and starts "rejecting it"; or the bipolar is totally irritated by the SSRIs. Perhaps you may want to discuss this with your psychiatrist?

I hope that you find relief. My heart goes out to you.
