As both an airline captain and licensed therapist who has specialized in fear of flying treatment for twenty-eight years with over 7,000 clients, I am amazed that Ms. Ross continues to recommend VRET. The research shows that VRET is no more effective than a control group simply sitting on a parked airplane "thinking about flying".
When a phobic is flying, stress hormones are released milliseconds after being triggered by noise or turbulence. The effect of the stress hormones quickly escalates to high anxiety or panic. CBT, being word-based is far too slow to keep up.
